Where to find the best woven bistro chairs

Coastal Interiors, Dining, Interiors, Kitchen, SummerAnneke McConnell

Hi friends! Nothing says "COASTAL" to me like rattan, wicker, and the casual chic vibe of woven bistro chairs.  They are practical and beautiful for dining seating, patio seating, as barstools and desk chairs. I LOVE them!

By far I believe the Riviera Side Chair (as shown below) is a fave for many people, but there are great contenders out there for you to choose from at various price points/quality.

Remember, some of these are sold as singles and others only as a pair! Not to mention most have multiple color options.

Some things to consider when choosing what type of chair to go with. These are all personal preference:

1.  Yes or No to arms on the chair.

2. Are they constructed to be used Outside?  Not all of them are!

3. If the seat material is lighter, is it a quality that will clean easily considering tanning oils, bronzers, food/sauces, markers, etc.?

4. Are they stackable? (if that's a desire for storage purposes)

5. Is the front of the seat design flat or curved (waterfall edge for comfort)?

The chair below is an example of a commercial grade, stackable bistro chair with an aluminum (faux bamboo) frame, great for indoor or outdoor use as aluminum is rust resistant!  And at only $80, a GREAT price point!

Below is probably one of my favorites I've found that has arms as well as a "waterfall" edge on the front where the legs sit.  This is more comfortable than the flat-style seat and something to consider when making a decision as well.

Below are two examples of similar chairs.  [CLICK the image for details] Both chairs have a REAL rattan frame, navy and white chevron pattern and waterfall edge.  The little details really make the difference on what kind of statement you're going for.

The first chair has the chevron pattern on the back framing, whereas the second chair does not, but is a bit more chic and understated than the first.

I hope this helps if you've been looking around for the perfect bistro chair!

Right now is a great time to add them to your home or business since Spring and Summer is typically when there are tons of them in stock and there are a great deal of sales happening at this time.

Below I'm sharing more bistro chair finds from various places. I'd love to know YOUR favorite!

My Fave Instagram Accounts to Follow

Interiors, Dining, Coastal InteriorsAnneke McConnell

Hello friends! We are enjoying some crazy GORGEOUS sunny weather here in Seattle and I'm instantly happy and excited for summer - yes summer!

Surrounding yourself with people who inspire, motivate, encourage, and teach about a particular area of life that you really connect with takes time and effort but is so worth it in the long term.  Over the years, I have found instagram to be an incredible way to find people who do just that in my life.

I have some recent designs shared below that were on my @coastalinteriors account on Instagram, but I wanted to change it up a bit today and share who I personally love to follow on Instagram.

Of course this is difficult with SO many talented friends within the DIY and Home Decor space.  This is definitely personal, and people that I literally look up to see what's new and to help balance out my life. ;-)

FASHION

@alyson_haley - Sequins and Things

I love Haley's laid back casual, chic, and simple style.  We have similar values and I love how she brings great fashion ideas, but never talks about how obsessed she is with this or that.  She is constantly inspiring me and I love pretty much every outfit she shares! #literally

How cute is this recent outfit she shared!

@laurenkaysims - Lauren Kaysims

Lauren is also on the more casual, chic side, and I also relate to her perspective and the world of fashion.  She has a calm presence on social media which seems rare when it feels like people are shouting at you from their posts sometimes. It's a tough balance as a blogger in this social media driven world!  I love that she says she is "Striving to live every day on purpose and for a purpose".

One of my fave recent outfit posts from her is this one below. Cute am I right?!

FITNESS

@kayla_itsinesKayla Itsines

There are not ENOUGH words for this woman. I LOVE her!!! Sure, she has almost 5 million followers on Instagram right now, but I've actually been following her on Instagram before she was even at 100,000 followers which to be honest, feels pretty special. Lol

I've stuck around with her because she is down to earth, pushes you with honesty and tough love, doesn't make it about her and her body (which is clearly healthy and strong), and you can see how passionate she is about helping women gain strength and confidence through fitness.

Just to note, I have purchased and completed her guides and the #deathbykayla hashtag is legit.  There are a lot of plyometric, jumping type moves which is not for everyone, BUT I believe her guides are still effective even when exercises are modified.

I'm getting ready to start another 12-week round - wish me luck, or better yet, join me!

8 Moves For Flat Abs That Aren't Crunches

@AlexaJeanFitness - Alexa Jean Brown

I love, love, love Alexa and her sweet little fam. It helps to relate to another mama and getting back into shape after having kids.  I love that her guides are affordable, and include to the point, classic and effective moves.  When I want to switch it up and be doing less HIIT or plyometric training, I come to her guides which feel like a good challenge at an even pace. I love that she also speaks into people's lives about mindset, which is a huge part of positive change. :-)

FOOD

Because I have lived with and through Hashimoto's thyroid disorder, kidney disease (minimal change disease), and have a rough family history of medical issues, I personally lean toward whole foods, more Whole 30 type recipes, etc.  I'm still learning what works for my body and honestly believe every person's needs are different.  I struggled through this A LOT at first, especially what to feed our kids.  Thankfully I'm in a better place now and LOVE all the food I can eat.

@wholenourishedlife by Emily of Whole Nourished Life

I connected with Emily on Instagram and immediately fell in love with her and her recipes.  How yummy does this Lemon Ginger Shrimp meal look?!! It can be found on her blog HERE.  I feel confident getting recipes from Emily as some who not only "gets it", but is a trained professional striving to help others improve their lives through nutrition.

@TenleyMolzahn - Sweet and Free Life

I love how transparent Tenley is about her struggles with nutrition over a long period of time and how she is now helping others as a nutritionist and educator because of it.  I love when people share their answers and help others get unstuck!

I'm still looking for good accounts to follow for hair and beauty if you have recommendations! I'd love to know your favorite accounts in general too!

To wrap up today's post, I'm sharing the sources for recent designs on my @coastalinteriors account and a few style finds.  This sunny weather has me craving bright and flowy outfits lately!

Bookcase Styling Made Simple

Coastal Interiors, Home Blog Posts, Interiors, Styling TipsAnneke McConnell

I have to admit, up until recently I was the person who avoided open bookcases at all costs. They often end up looking messy and cluttered, so I just personally assume to go with a cabinet that has doors to "hide the mess" of it all.

Sounds familiar?  Now that I've been "schooled" in how to decorate a bookshelf, I'm excited to pass along some ideas to you as well so you can style your bookshelf with confidence!

This gorgeous bookcase above was styled by my friend Heather from The Decor Fix.   To me, bookshelves are one of the trickiest areas in your home.....you need them to function, but you also want them to add to the style of the room.   Plus, a well styled bookshelf can have such an impact.  Case in point above!

Heather has created the most fantastic bookshelf styling class that even as a design lover, I learned so much from her and am happy to share her class with you.  It's the perfect mix of knowledge and action without any amount of overwhelm. #mykindofclass

After years working as a designer, Heather developed a tried-and-true method for bookshelf styling that works with any decorating style.  For myself, this includes a lot of white coral, seashells, framed photos of family, and of course books upon books!

When you sign up for the class (discounted through February!), you get immediate access to 90 minutes of videos as well as handy templates and cheat sheets to help you style your space.

Heather will guide you through how to use the existing items in your home, shop smart, and style with an overall plan in place. (No more guesswork and constant rearranging) #yesplease

Heather acts like your personal decor coach as she teaches you the "whys and hows" of styling, so if you have ever felt overwhelmed by styling, this class is for you.

While Heather goes into the full breakdown, here are some tips that have helped me over the years.

1. Less is More.

Bookshelves definitely start to look cluttered when there is too much going on. Avoid jam-packing the thing to the brim and purge unnecessary items. Ask yourself, "Do I really need this book I've been meaning to read for 3 years?' Yup.....I just went there. (only because I've been there)

2. Consider A Different Bookshelf.

I've been in that position where we had a home full of hand-me-downs and they honestly just didn't fit the space properly.  Before you say, "But I don't have the money to buy something new!" Wait!  If that's the case, don't stress about it.  Heather will help you out! If you are able to sell what you currently own and buy a new or used bookshelf that fits your home and needs better, go for it!

I'm also working on more tips for painting furniture if that's more of your need. Details HERE.

3. Shop Your Home.

You'd be surprised what can make a bookshelf finally "work".  Look around your home for decor items that can be pulled together to create a functional bookshelf that is also your kind of style.

If you're looking for some decor ideas:

- One Kings Lane has beautiful options for book ends!

- Minted has endless, affordable options for art.

- Wayfair is my go to for all things baskets and organization.

- Amazon is where I find some pretty cool picture frames like this square brushed gold one << LOVE THIS!

- Of course check out your local shops, etsy, thrift stores, and own home!

It's honestly a gift to yourself to have a home you can LIVE in, instead of one you constantly feel like "you're working on".  If you're struggling with styling your bookshelves in a way that works for your life, Heather is going to save you so much time and frustration.

It may seem like a simple thing, but time and time again, it proves challenging.

I invite you to check out Heather's class and see for yourself! Click the button below to watch her video and learn more.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to enjoy the view!

Coastal Interiors: Modern Vintage Living Room

Coastal Interiors, Summer, Spring, Home Blog Posts, Interiors, Living Room, EdesignAnneke McConnell

Thanks for the social love and pins from my last post guys! It can be a little daunting to put yourself out there, and I'm so thankful for your support!! xoxo

As for today's design, I love a good mix of modern clean lines, a uncluttered but collected space, and definitely a beach vibe!  Incorporating inky blues, indigo, palm leaf green, etc. with pops of warm colors, gray and tan are my tendencies in design.

I fell in love with that navy brushstroke pillow (and more colors!) at first site and have always been a sucker for palm leaf ANYTHING like this pillow.

Using a clear coffee table and sofa you can see underneath really just visually lightens the feel of a room. I love the sofa in this design for that very reason!

The navy striped rug is a vintage find, so at the time of this post there is only one available.  Adding home decor with history and quality like this really adds life to a room - whether it's found online, passed down in the family, or found at an estate sale!

Then how FUN is that gold starburst pendant!!!  Lighting has such an amazing way of pulling an entire room together - one of my most popular post is on lighting which you can find HERE!

We are also ALL about versatility around here at Coastal Collective Co., and garden stools definitely fit the bill for that!! They are incredibly easy to move around, can be used inside or outside AND as a seat, footstool, or side table. We personally have a few and LOVE them!  I think the subtle variation in colors in this one in today's design are gorgeous!

COMPLETE THE LOOK!

TODAY'S INSPIRATION

With lazy, warm summer days not too far off (no, I didn't forget Spring!), I am loving EVERY item in this collection above!!!  Swing porches, garden stools, outdoor pillows galore. It's all gorgeous and inviting, not to mention comfortable for a night with friends and good food....and hopefully great conversation. ;-)

And to top it off with a few weekend faves. Clearly I have sunshine and warmer days on my mind!
